Over the years major cities have witnessed destruction owing to terror
Call it a terrorist attack or an attack on liberation values; the term digs up more than the imagined sheer implication leaving behind haunting nightmare that rots deep inside us. To fade the memories is testing and the escape is deadened emotional. The feeling of hopelessness and the grief of the nation to witness deaths and corpses on television screen has got a psychological impact too. Over the years, we have witnessed several brutal onslaughts in various parts of the world which has left daunting memories of terror inside our minds.
The deadly Mumbai terror attack which took place on November 26, 2008, saw over 300 people get massacred by 10 Pakistani terrorists who took the sea routes to illegally enter India and create mayhem. The attacks had left Mumbai crawling with more than 15 brave security officers sacrificing their lives to save the city. Terror attacks are a threat to humanity but they continue to happen on a regular basis, despite efforts from the United Nations and other major countries to counter terrorism.

26/11 Mumbai attacks
The deadliest terrorist attack of Mumbai draws global condemnation. On November 26, 2008, a series of blast witnessed ten members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, an Islamic terrorist organisation based in Pakistan shattering lives across the city of Mumbai. The terrorists carried out a series of 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks that lasted for four days killing around 164 people and injuring 305. Focusing Hotel Taj, they also attacked Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus killing several security officers in the assault.

Two aircrafts collided into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The series of third air-crash hit the Pentagon and the last plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The attack triggered major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism which killed almost 3,000 people.

July 2013 Iraq attacks
The first two weeks of July 2013 were horrific for people of Iraq. The series of attacks killed 389 people with injuries to at least 800 additional people. The attacks were a consequence to the Iraqi army’s raids on a protest camp in Hawija. The untamed wildfire of deaths kept increasing with every passing month. In May Iraq had witnessed deaths of over 1,000 people and more than 2,000 were reported wounded. By July the attacks turned into the worst ever the country had experienced.

1985 Air India bombing
The Air India Flight 182 operating on the Toronto-Montreal-London-Delhi route on 23 June 1985 flight was destroyed by a bomb at an altitude of 31,000 feet. It crashed into the Atlantic Ocean while in Irish airspace. It was the first bombing of a 747 jumbo jet. Recorded as the largest mass murder in Canadian history, the incident destroyed lives of a total of 329 people, including 268 Canadian citizens, 27 British citizens, and 24 Indian citizens. The main suspects in the bombing were members of the Sikh militant group Babbar Khalsa.
This incident was believed to come as retaliation against India for Operation Blue Star carried out by the Indian Army to flush out Sikh militants.

2014 Peshawar school massacre
The 2014 Peshawar school massacre was a terrorist attack conducted on 16 December 2014 by six gunmen affiliated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban terrorist group in Pakistan. The militants entered the Army Public School in Peshawar, Pakistan killing 141 people including 132 school children, ranging between eight and eighteen years of age. The rescue operation launched by the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group special forces killed all six terrorists and rescued 960 people. This was one of the worst terror attacks to have struck Pakistan, surpassing the 2007 Karsaz attack and it sent shockwaves across the neighbours and beyond.
